Where to Find Our Offices?
While we have paid staff on some services we do value the contribution of volunteers. People in Lewis rely on services that we provide to live full and active lives.
As part of the Third Sector Hebrides Group all volunteers for Staran are dealt with and by Volunteering Hebrides.
Volunteering Hebrides is a charitable company in its own right but is based from the multipurpose Lewis Voluntary Resource Centre, 30 Francis Street, Stornoway, and from 41 Airport Road, Balivanich, Benbecula.
Volunteering Hebrides inherits a strong volunteering support and delivery role over and across the Third Sector Hebrides Group, and in partnership with TSH, as its volunteering and support agent.
Volunteering Hebrides aims to work with associates and partners in the delivery of our aims in the Hebrides, at project level, and with Third Sector Hebrides members in the community.
Volunteering can provide you with an opportunity to spend your spare time in a productive and rewarding way. It can help you develop new skills, increase your employability and strengthen your CV. It is also an opportunity to meet new people and improve the quality of life for those who face social isolation.
All volunteers will receive full training for their posts. We put all of our drivers through the nationally recognised MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) and our passenger assistants through the PATS (Passenger Assistant Training Scheme).
Volunteers are eligible for reimbursement of reasonable expenses incurred while undertaking business for the organisation, such as travel costs.
What we are looking for:
For drivers only:
For all volunteers:
Here’s what one of our volunteers has to say about volunteering with Staran:
“I volunteer two days a week and now feel confident enough to start applying for paid employment. I know that taking people out in the minibus is helping them while making friends with my colleagues is helping me.”
